Practicing PMP: A case study of RF project manager

A certain telecom operators is undertaking a project of establishing 4G coverage in certain city as part of larger nationwide program. The RF project manager has already developed WBS (work breakdown structure) of all the RF activities planned and to be executed

To plan the 4G coverage, one activity is to acquire RF planning tool. In the requirements documentation, the planning tools should support the following features and functions. In the scope statement, the product scope only includes capability to plan RF and excludes microwave fixed links planning

Now the RF project manager wants to start conduct procurement. The project manager is PMP certified

The project manager should select a potential seller. The activities he is required to do is summarized in the below figure

In the configuration management plan, the product to be purchased should be compatible with the configurable components to be integrated with. The project manager extracted the configuration of all necessary components available that will integrate with the purchased planning tool

The configuration management plan is compared with technical specification of the product received in the bidder response to RFQ
